Olympia 2018: Snowboardcross: Vaultier wins gold again, Schairer falls heavily

The Frenchman Pierre Vaultier is again Olympic champion in snowboardcrossing. The gold medallist from Sochi left Australian Jarryd Hughes and Spaniard Regino Hernandez behind him in the final of Pyeongchang on Thursday. World champion Vaultier had entered the competition as a favourite and clinched a secure victory in the final run. The best Austrian was Alessandro Hämmerle as overall seventh place.

For his ÖSV colleagues Markus Schairer (from in the quarter-finals / 22nd) and Markus Schairer, respectively. Hanno Douschan (27th) and Lukas Pachner (39th/each in the last sixteen) remained a short working day. Schairer fell from a great height and had to be taken to hospital. A diagnosis was still pending.
