Olympia 2018: Speed skating: Bloemen wins gold over 10,000 m – Beckert Seventh place

The German hopeful Patrick Beckert has clearly missed the medal ranks over the 10,000 m in the first non-Dutch speed skating victory of the Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

The 27-year-old from Erfurt finished seventh in 13:01.94 minutes at the gold run of the Canadian world record holder Ted-Jan Bloemen. Behind Bloemen, who won in an Olympic record time of 12:39.77 minutes, the Sochi Olympic champion Jorrit Bergsma (Netherlands) won silver and the Italian Nicola Tumolero took bronze.

The second German starter Moritz Geisreiter (Inzell/13:06.35) finished ninth, world champion Sven Kramer (Netherlands/13:01.02), winner over the 5000 m, was only sixth.
