Cycling: Tour of the Algarve: Martin in individual time trial only sixth

The German professional cyclist Tony Martin has clearly missed the desired victory in the individual time trial of the Algarve Tour in Portugal. The four-time time trial world champion finished only sixth in the overall victory of the British top rider Geraint Thomas with a gap of 27 seconds.

The Belgian Victor Campenaerts finished in second place on the third leg after 20.3 km through Lagoa, eleven seconds behind. Stefan Küng from Switzerland finished third (+0:19 seconds). At the top of the overall ranking Thomas has a 22-second advantage over his Polish team mate Michal Kwiatkowski.

Maximilian Schachmann continues to be the best German overall. In the fight against the clock, the Berliner finished 18th (1:13 minutes back) and improved to eighth place (1:19).
