The decision about the future of national handball coach Christian Prokop obviously falls on Monday. The German Handball Federation invited to a press conference on Friday afternoon at the beginning of the week (16.00 hrs.) after its meeting of the Presidium in Hanover on the topic “Results of the European Championship 2018”.
The most pressing item on the agenda is the question of further cooperation with Prokop following the disappointing main round out of German defending champions at the European Championships tournament in Croatia last January.
Since the early knockout. of the national team in Croatia, Prokop is considered to be a shaky candidate despite the fact that the contract runs until 2022. The 39-year-old has also been counted in the past few weeks by reports of differences between the coach and the DHB team.
According to a report published by the Internet portal Spiegel online on Friday, Axel Kromer, member of the DHB sports board of directors, and Vice President Bob Hanning intend to hold talks with several international players at Hamburg Airport on the weekend before the board meeting. Obviously, the aim is to determine whether Prokop would continue to follow despite the allegedly disturbed atmosphere.
Spiegel Online also reported that Hanning’s position in the DHB leadership could also be called into question in the event of an early separation of Prokop. In 2017, Prokop was hired as Hanning’s favourite candidate by Bundesliga club SC DHfK Leipzig for a replacement of 500,000 euros as the successor to Iceland’s successful coach Dagur Sigurdsson.
