MLB: Orioles feed pitcher Andrew Cashner from Rangers

The Baltimore Orioles are intensifying their rotation with Andrew Cashner. The right-hander last played for the Texas Rangers and receives a two-year contract.

“I’m excited,”Cashner said after he signed the contract, which guarantees him $16 million. The agreement also includes an option of ten million dollars for 2020.

“It’s definitely a new journey for me. There are some familiar faces here. Manager Buck Showalter for example. It’s pretty cool to work with someone from Texas,”said Cashner about Showalter, who owns a house in Lone Star State.

Cashner was in 11-11 with a 3.40 ERA for the Rangers and is now supposed to give stability to a rotation which had to fight with shape fluctuations and injury bad luck last year. Cashner is also the O’s first major commitment since the end of last season.

Cashner doesn’t know a lot about his new club, but:”I know they need starting pitching. And here I am. I’ll be here every day helping everyone I can help. My job is to come here, pitch, pitch and win.”

Cashner must have made himself particularly attractive for Baltimore due to his ground ball rate of 48.6 percent, which can be in a homerun-friendly ball park like Camden Yards Goldwert.
