Olympia 2018: Slalom sensation!

Katharina Gallhuber sensationally won the Olympic bronze medal in the alpine slalom on Friday. The 20-year-old from Lower Austria, whose best World Cup result is a sixth place, only the Swedish Frida Hansdotter and the Swiss Wendy Holdener had to admit defeat in Yongpyong. Only five hundredths decided between gold and silver. Gallhuber was 0.32 seconds behind.

Top favourite Mikaela Shiffrin only had to settle for fourth place 23 hours after her giant slalom triumph. The 22-year-old American, who had won in Russia four years ago, ended up missing eight hundredths of a second on bronze.

Gallhuber, who was only ninth at halftime, took the eighth medal for Austria in South Korea. Bernadette Schild (1.55) finished seventh immediately before Katharina Liensberger (1.94). The fourth Austrian ski lady, Stephanie Brunner, was eliminated in the first run.
