Olympia 2018: Ski Freestyle: Norwegian Braaten triumphs in slopestyle

The Norwegian freestyle skier Öystein Braaten (22) is Olympic Slopestyle Champion. The two-time X-Games winner won the final with 95.00 points, silver went to US starter Nick Goepper (93.60) and bronze to Alex Beaulieu-Marchand (92.40) from Canada.

Braaten got the best score in Pyeongchang/South Korea in the first of three rounds. Goepper, who had won bronze in Sochi four years ago, only advanced to the silver medal in his last attempt.

“In the first run I decided to be as good as I could. It was enough,”Braaten said. It was unbelievable to be “in the final at all. The level was so high.”

World champion McRae Williams had surprisingly missed the final. The US-American finished 15th after two qualifying rounds. Only the 12 best scorers progressed. A German was not included in the competition.
