Olympia 2018: Lorentzen wins gold over 500 m – Ihle only eighth place

At the gold run of the Norwegian Havard Lorentzen over 500 m the first medal dream of speed skater Nico Ihle burst at the winter games in Pyeongchang.

The Chemnitzer, who had become vice world champion last year on the same ice, had to settle for eighth place in 34.89 seconds. Ihle has now on Friday (11.00 OZ/03.00 CET in the LIVETICKER) over the 1000 m a second chance.

Havard Lorentzen was the first Norwegian since Finn Helgesen in 1948 to secure gold medal over the 500 metres. In 34.41 seconds, the 25-year-old was one hundredth of a second ahead of South Korean Cha Min Kyu (34.42). Bronze went to the Chinese Gao Tingyu in 34.65 seconds. The Inzell-based Joel Dufter landed on the 29th position with 35.50 seconds. Place.
