MLB: New rules for 2018 – but no Pitch Clock

The MLB has announced the new rules for the 2018 season to speed up the game. However, there will be no Pitch Clock at least this season.

Commissioner Rob Manfred announced the new measures on Monday. Among other things, the number of visits to the Mound is limited.

“I am pleased that we were able to reach an agreement with the players’ association to take concrete steps towards a faster game,”Manfred said in a statement. They want to continue working with the players to find solutions.

The idea of a Pitch Clock, which is supposed to accelerate the time between the individual pitches like a shot clock in basketball, had caused a great deal of annoyance among the players. At least this season the Pitch Clock, which is already being tested in lower leagues, will not be introduced.
