Basketball: BBL considers cup reform

The BBL allegedly is considering a fundamental reform of the cup competition. As the Sport Bild reports, 16 BBL teams could take part in the competition as early as next season, thus significantly enhancing the sporting value of the BBL Cup.

“Nothing is yet ready to be decided or finalized,”said BBL Managing Director Stefan Holz (50).

So far, the hosts of the Top Four have been automatically qualified for the final tournament, while the other three semi-finalists will be determined by three drawn qualifying duels among the top six of the league.

On Sunday, Bayern Munich won the cup for the first time in 50 years with an 80:75 victory in the final against Alba Berlin.
