Head coach Peter Draisaitl continues to place his trust in the eight-time German ice hockey champion, Kölner Haie. The 52-year-old, the father of NHL star Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton Oilers), will be responsible for coaching beyond the current season, according to the club.
The KEC did not provide any further details on the duration of the contract. Last November, Peter Draisaitl succeeded Canadian Cory Clouston (48) as shark successor.
After a weak start, the former international has meanwhile led the sharks to fifth place in the DEL standings. The Rhinelanders have been waiting for a title win in the DEL since 2002.
“We are very pleased with Peter Draisaitl’s work and we are convinced that he will be the right man behind the Sharks’ gang in the future,”said sports director Mark Mahon on the extension of Draisaitl’s contract.
Co-trainers Greg Thomson and Thomas Brandl as well as goalkeeper coach Jonas Forsberg will also continue to be available as assistants.
Peter Draisaitl was once a middle forward of the sharks (from 1990 to 1992 and from 1994 to 1998). In 1995 he was a player in the shark championship.
