The Carolina Panthers have announced their new Managing Director. Matt Hurney will now assume the role on a full-time basis. This was announced by the franchise on Wednesday. Hurney played the role on an interim basis.
“We are fortunate that Marty will become our Managing Director after having played the interim role very well last season,”said Tina Becker, Head of Operations, explaining that “Marty’s leadership and vision have helped build a foundation for this team. His work was also of enormous importance in returning to the playoffs.”
Hurney had taken over the role from Dave Gettleman before the last preseason. One year after the Panthers fell far short of expectations as a result of their Super Bowl participation, they managed to make it back into the playoffs with a 11-5 record. Hurney’s personnel decisions have already been entrusted to Hurney this season.
In his last draft in the 2012 season, Hurney showed an extraordinarily good hand when the Panthers Luke Kuechly secured themselves in the first and Josh Norman in the fifth round. After a disappointing 2012, however, the Panthers, who achieved three playoffs in their eleven-year term of office, fired Hurney.
