Olympia 2018: After protest: Hönig calls for revision of rules and regulations

German national coach Gerald Hönig asks the biathlon world association IBU to revise the rules and regulations after the questionable outcome of the Olympic mixed relay:”There must be a clearer definition when it comes to situations in the corridor area. The decision was based on a’ chewing gum paragraph’,”Hönig said on Wednesday.

The day before, Dominik Windisch from Italy had sat down in front of the German final runner Arnd Peiffer in the finish sprint. Television pictures show that Windisch’s feet were in two of the three entrance corridors for at least a short moment. This is actually prohibited, which is why Germany protested against the final result.

“The decision could have gone one way or the other. I’m disappointed because I thought the jury would make a decision in terms of fairness,”said Hönig, who wants to raise the issue again at IBU after the Pyeongchang Winter Games.

In any case, in the future he hopes for “a little more impertinence”, said Hönig:”We should also move a little more on the margins of what is permitted”.
