Olympia 2018: medal record for Norway – “Team D” sets the winner’s best mark

At the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang the records are set.

The medal-winning Norwegians collected gold and bronze medals in the cross-country skiers’ team sprints, the speed skaters’ success in team pursuit and the silver medal of ski racer Ragnhild Mowinckel in the downhill run 30 to 33. They broke the Olympic medal record of the Russians, who had won 31 precious metals at their home games in Sochi.

The Norwegian team now stands at 13 gold, 11 silver and 9 bronze medals. With 13 Olympic victories, the Scandinavians also equalled their best mark from Salt Lake City in 2002.

The German team (12-7-5) can also look forward to a record. The Olympic victory of bobsleigh driver Mariama Jamanka in the two-man’s event was the twelfth gold medal for “Team D”, and the German team in South Korea set its victory record at the Olympic Winter Games. The German team also celebrated twelve Olympic victories at the 1998 Nagano and 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Games.

In Pyeongchang there is now even a new record. During the remaining four days of the competition, the German team will have four more realistic gold chances in the two biathlon relay teams, the Nordic Combination team competition and the four-man bobsleigh. But Norway also has some hopes for further victories.

Thus, the international gold record is also shaking with concern. Canada had never achieved 14 victories at the 2010 Vancouver home games before.
