Cycling: Ackermann in Abu Dhabi in third place at Viviani victory

Elia Viviani from Italy, the Italian Olympic cyclist Elia Viviani from Italy, has won the second leg of the Abu Dhabi Tour and taken the overall lead.

After 154 km along Yas Beach, the 29-year-old from Team Quick-Step Floors prevailed over the Dutchman Danny van Poppel (LottoNL-Jumbo) and the German top sprinter Pascal Ackermann.

More than 200 metres before the finish, Ackermann opened the mass sprint and drove from 15th place to third. Viviani, second behind van Poppel, went to the final meters and used the slipstream to secure his fourth win of the season.

Sprint star Andre Greipel (Lotto-Soudal) finished eleventh, Marcel Kittel (Katusha-Alpecin) could not make it to the front of the field after the last corner and came in 82nd. to the finish line.

On Friday, the third stage leads 133 kilometres from the Nation Towers building complex to the large national flag. The route also crosses the Yas Marina Circuit Formula 1 circuit.
