Olympia 2018: Pyeongchang already third most successful games for Austria

The Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang are already the third most successful for Austria in Olympic history before the final three days of the competition. Thanks to the gold medal of snowboarder Anna Gasser on Thursday, the ÖOC-Team 2018 has already achieved the yield of among others Sochi 2014 and Vancouver 2010 surpassed.

Austria’s athletes hold five gold, two silver and six bronze medals in Pyeongchang after Gassers Gold and the two bronze medals by Michael Matt in the slalom and the Nordic Combine team competition on Thursday. In Sochi four years ago and Vancouver eight years ago there were four gold medals each.

So far, Austria’s athletes have only been better at winter games than in South Korea on two occasions. The record stands since 2006 up to nine times gold and seven times silver and seven times bronze. In Albertville in 1992, six gold, seven silver and eight bronze medals were in the end.
