Olympia 2018: Snowboard: Anna Gasser wins gold in Big Air

Anna Gasser has crowned her impressive snowboard career with the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang on Thursday. The 26-year-old Carinthian won the Big-Air competition after three jumps, two of which scored 185.00 points, clearly ahead of the American Jamie Anderson (177.25) and the New Zealander Zoi Sadowski Synnott (157.50).

As world champion, series winner in the World Cup, X-Games winner and local qualification winner, anything but a triumph of Gassers in Alpensia would have been a surprise. She celebrated her 15th birthday. I forgot my second place in the slopestyle competition, which was badly affected by the wind. It was Austria’s first ever Freestyle Snowboard Olympic medal. Gasser also won the second ÖOC snowboard gold medal after that of Julia Dujmovits 2014 (parallel slalom). All in all, it was Austria’s seventh medal on the board.
