Basketball: Bamberg wins game one after Trinchieri Aus

Crisis-ridden German basketball champion Brose Bamberg has won his first game after his retirement from Andrea Trinchieri. Four days after the long-time coach’s departure, Bamberg won the EuroLeague against Red Star Belgrade on Friday evening with 86:62 (46:36). Trinchieri’s former assistant Ilias Kantzouris was on the sidelines as head coach.

At 21 points, Dorell Wright was the most successful thrower of the Bamberg team, who are tenth in the domestic league and clearly fall short of expectations. Despite its success, Bamberg still has few chances of reaching the EuroLeague play-offs. The team currently in eleventh place has to improve at least to eighth place.

The victory against the Serbs will nevertheless give Bamberg a boost for the Bundesliga. There it goes on 4. March at the Gießen 46ers. The last four defeats in the league went into series – Trinchieri had to leave. He had been unable to train the team for several weeks due to a shoulder operation in January.
