Biathlon: Czech biathletes want to boycott world cup final in Russia

As a reaction to the Russian doping scandal, Czech biathletes are hoping to win the World Cup final in Tyumen, Russia (22nd place). till 25. March) stay away.

“We are of the opinion that Russia should not be organising international competitions in the current situation”, Czech President Jiri Hamza was quoted in the Czech media on Friday:”If you are convinced that something is not going right, you should keep your attitude.

The International Biathlon Union (IBU) held an official meeting on 14 June. Feb. 2 confirms that the World Cup final will take place in Tyumen despite all the concerns. In the course of the scandal about Russian state doping, IBU had left the organisation of the event by the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) open for the time being.

In December, the Canadian federation had already announced that it would not send its athletes to the World Cup and IBU Cup competitions in Russia. According to Biathlon Canada’s statement, adherence to the events caused “great damage” to the sport.
