Cycling: Abu Dhabi: Bauhaus wins in Germany’s three-time triumph

Cycling professional Phil Bauhaus (Sunweb) has clinched his first victory of the season at a German triumph in the Abu Dhabi Tour.

On the third stage, the 23-year-old from Bocholt won in a mass sprint after 133 kilometres ahead of Marcel Kittel (Katusha-Alpecin) and Pascal Ackermann (Bora-hansgrohe). Andre Greipel (Lotto-Soudal) rounded off the strong German result with sixth place.

The overall standings continue to be led by the Italian track cycling Olympic champion Elia Viviani (Quick-Step Floors) ahead of the eleven-kilometre individual time trial on Saturday. The best German in the five-day round trip is now Bauhaus as third with three seconds behind Viviani. The 24-year-old Ackermann follows with a five-second gap to fourth place.

Former Quick-Step rider Kittel missed his first success for his new team at just under 30 degrees. Ackermann had already finished third in the sprint on Thursday. Bauhaus finished fifth last year with the same number of finishes.
