Olympia 2018: Speed skating: Nuis wins gold over 1000 m – Ihle eighth again

Speed skater Nico Ihle remained without a medal in Pyeongchang at the Olympic victory of the Dutch World Champion Kjeld Nuis.

Over 1000 m the Chemnitzer finished eighth in 1:08.93 minutes as before on half distance. Joel Dufter (Inzell/1:09.46) had to make do with rank 14.

Thin as a whisker behind Nuis, who triumphed in 1:07.95 minutes, 500 m Olympic champion Havard Lorentzen (Norway/1:07.99) secured silver. Bronze medal went to the South Korean Kim Tae Yun (1:08,22).

As Ihle did not manage to reach the hoped-for podium position in the second attempt, the matches for the German speed skating community will probably end without a medal just as they did four years ago. A success of Claudia Pechstein (Berlin) in the final mass start on Saturday is unlikely.
