The Canadian curling men have surprisingly failed to win a medal at the Olympic Winter Games for the first time in 26 years.

Led by Skip Kevin Koe, the world champion, who had last won the Olympics three times in a row, lost 5:7 against Skip Peter de Cruz from Switzerland in Friday’s bronze match. On Saturday (15.35 o’ clock OZ/7.35 CET) Sweden (Niklas Edin) and the USA (John Shuster) will fight for gold.

This was the first time since 1992 and only for the third time in the history of the Olympic Games that the Curling motherland had been emptied by men. The Canadian women, who were Olympic champions four years ago in Sochi, had already failed in the preliminary round in Pyeongchang. In the newly launched Mixed Doubles competition, however, John Morris and Kaitlyn Lawes won gold for Canada.

For the first time since the resumption of curling in the 1998 Olympic program (Nagano) Germany was not represented in any competition.
