MLB: Detroit Tigers oblige left-hander Francisco Liriano

The Detroit Tigers have signed a one-year contract with Pitcher Francisco Liriano worth 4 million US dollars. However, it has not yet been decided which role the left-handed players will play.

Liriano last played for Houston Astros and won the World Series with the Texans. Overall, the 34-year-old was 6-7 with a 5.66 ERA in the previous year. He completed 18 starts for the Toronto Blue Jays before moving to Houston for the Trade Deadline at the end of July, where he pitched out of the bullpen and made 20 appearances.

General Manager Al Avila, however, left it open whether Liriano would act as a starter or a relief:”He told us that he would like to start. Avila added:” We have a few question marks. It’s good to know that you have a multi-faceted guy with a lot of experience.”

In Detroit, Liriano meets an old acquaintance. From 2006 to 2012, he was active for the Minnesota Twins and his then manager was Ron Gardenhire, who has been in charge of the Tigers since this season,”He’s a good boy,”Gardenhire said about his new old pitcher:”It’s fantastic. He’ll fit right in here. He’s a worker.”

The contract includes bonus payments of one million dollars, which Liriano can achieve with a certain number of launches.
