Olympia 2018: After double gold: What Hirscher is most looking forward to now

While the last competitions of the Olympic Winter Games will take place in Pyeongchang, Marcel Hirscher will once again enjoy his homeland. After the slalom competition, the double Olympic champion returned home to prepare himself for the final showdown in the World Cup.

“Disconnecting, washing the laundry and sleeping a lot,”the Salzburg resident told the crown of the programme for the next few days. Just under three weeks ago, South Korea did not pass a top athlete like Marcel Hirscher without leaving a trace:”In the end, I counted the days. But the Olympia mission is finished, Pyeongchang was a complete success.”

The fact that he failed in the slalom, where he started as a big favourite, didn’t change that either:”No, it certainly doesn’t lack the icing on the cake. Twice gold! I would have taken this with a kiss on my hand before the games and I would have loved to sign it,”Hirscher says, not feeling any trouble about the missed golden hat trick.

Hirscher, who, like all other Austrian medal winners, will be received in Salzburg on Tuesday, has already set his sights on the next goals:”Small ball in giant slalom, small ball in slalom, big ball” and those are within reach at the World Cup races in Kranjska Gora next weekend.
