Olympia 2018: Comfort Gold for Canada: Toutant wins Big Air

Snowboarder Sebastien Toutant has won the Olympic premiere of Big Air and relieved Canada’s suffering at the Winter Games.

One day after the ice hockey bankruptcy against Germany, the 25-year-old won on Saturday after three rounds with a total of 174.25 points, ahead of Kyle Mack (USA/168.75) and Billy Morgan (Great Britain/168.00).

“It’s just wonderful. I’m overjoyed. I haven’t been able to snowboard and train for a long time because I’ve had such severe back problems in the past few months,”said Toutant:”Now standing up for the tricks that I couldn’t even rehearse properly is great”.

It was also a consolation for Canada, who recently suffered heavy defeats in curling and ice hockey. The men’s ice hockey team had lost the semi-finals against Germany on Friday evening (3:4), the women lost to arch-rivals USA in the final. The Curlers remained sensationally without a medal.

Slopestyle Olympic champion Redmond Gerard (USA) finished fifth in front of the American president’s daughter Ivanka Trump. German athletes were not at the start. On Thursday, the Austrian Anna Gasser won the first Olympic gold medal in the women’s event in the Big Air competition.
