Olympia 2018: IIHF president compares DEB team with liver loaf and veal sausage.

Rene Fasel, president of the IIHF, compared the German national team with “Leberkäse und Weißwurst” after a sensational victory in the semi-final against Canada.

“You don’t need caviar every day. You can also live well with liver loaf and veal sausage. Yesterday was such a day,”said the IOC member from Switzerland.

Fasel added that, at the Olympic tournament in Pyeongchang, he naturally missed the NHL pros, saying that the semi-finals between Germany and Canada had nevertheless offered “something unique”,”the emotions were wonderful”. The surprising result of the game (4:3) he described as “Miracle on Ice”, the sensational victory of the USA in Lake Placid against Russia in 1980, as a “small miracle”.”Let’s see what else happens in the final.”

Fasel expects the final of the DEB selection against the highly favoured Russians on Sunday (13.10 a. m. OZ/5.10 CET) to trigger a boom for the sport in Germany.”All Germans, 80 million, will be seated in front of the television. And no one in Germany would be interested to know that the pros from the North American professional league NHL are not in Pyeongchang, Fasel added. He was “very happy that we have such a surprising final”.
