Olympia 2018: US curler wins Olympic gold for the first time

The US curlers won gold for the first time at the Olympic Winter Games. The team around Skip John Shuster won in the finals in Pyeongchang against Sweden against the Sochi third Niklas Edin with 10:7.

Switzerland had already secured a 7:5 bronze medal against Canada on Friday. This is the first time since 1992 that the record Olympic champion has not been awarded a medal.

For the 35-year-old John Shuster it is the second Olympic medal after bronze 2006 in Turin. With 5-4 wins, the Americans were third behind Sweden (7-2) and Canada (6-3) in the semi-finals. Surprisingly, they won 5:3 against Skip Kevin Koe’s Canadian team. The Swedes had eliminated the Swiss with 9:3.

For the first time since the resumption of the sport in 1998, German curlers are not represented in Pyeongchang.
