The German national ice hockey team may be facing a major upheaval following the sensational win of the Olympic silver medal:”We’ve been in talks with some of the boys for a long time,”said coach Marco Sturm after the 3-4 extra time in the final against Russia:”In the end, the players will decide, and it’s still not decided”.
He went on to say:”Maybe the squad won’t be standing on the ice in this constellation at the next tournaments.”
Candidates for a career end are among others DEL-record scorer Patrick Reimer and captain Marcel Goc:”I have to see what the body says at the end of the season,” said Reimer (35),”Olympia has definitely made me want more. It is important “that now all the boys stick together and don’t say,” Now we have achieved great things.”Our goal must be to continue on the path together.”
The last injured Goc (34) wants to make his decision dependent on his maltreated body:”Let’s see how my knee feels,”he said,”at the moment it looks good. That would be nice.”
Christian Ehrhoff (35), on the other hand, had already explained before the tournament began that he wanted to continue playing. Even participation in the Winter Games in Beijing in 2022 is not ruled out. The next major ice hockey event is the World Championships in Denmark in May.
