MLB: Philadelphia Phillies: Will Middlebrooks after a collision in hospital

Infielder Will Middlebrooks of the Philadelphia Phillies had to be taken to hospital in the jumping practice game against the Baltimore Orioles (9:6 Philly) after a collision with a teammate. He had apparently injured his ankle.

Middlebrooks, who signed a Minor League contract with the Phillies in January and was invited to the training camp, played in the eighth inning at third base. In a fly ball he went backwards towards the ball, while Left Fielder Andrew Pullin moved forward and started to slide. Both collided and Pullin caught Middlebrooks on the ankle.

Middlebrooks went down and needed treatment. Afterwards he was taken off the field in a buggy and taken to hospital for x-rays.

“It was one of those balls that landed between in and outfield,”Pullin told MLB. com,”I ran at a pace and didn’t hear Middlebrooks. And I didn’t call because I wasn’t sure if I was coming to the ball. At the last moment I slid towards the ball. I’m not sure if he had called.”

Middlebrooks played only 32 games in the last two years in the MLB and beat. 211 in 38 at-bats for the Texas Rangers last year. In total, he will compete on 43 home runs and 155 RBI in the Big Leagues.

An exact diagnosis has not yet been determined.
