NBA: Clippers owner Ballmer explains Trade by Blake Griffin:”Adapting to modern NBAs”.

Blake Griffin’s surprising trade with the Detroit pistons continues to keep those involved busy. Clippers owner Steve Ballmer again commented, explaining that the decision was difficult but necessary.

Ballmer explained this to ESPN with the injury history of Griffin and the possible effects of the trade on the team chemistry:”Of course, he is a superstar. But if you look at your past with all the injuries and how the dynamics in our team have evolved, the trade was necessary.”

According to Ballmer, the team was a bit too dependent on Griffin’s performance,”We had the one player who provided most assists, points and rebounds. In the modern NBA, however, you can see more and more how responsibilities are distributed within the team,”he says,” and that’s how they wanted to orientate themselves and adapt.

During the contract extension with Griffin last summer, this insight had not yet been so clear, and the trend had also accelerated during the current season. For the Clippers it is now a matter of winning a “thick, fat ring” one day.
