Olympic Games 2018: Sweden’s women curlers win third Olympic gold medal

The Swedish curlers won their third Olympic gold medal at the Pyeongchang Winter Games. Skip Anna Hasselborg’s women’s team from Scandinavia beat South Korea 8-3 in the final to celebrate their third women’s victory after Turin in 2006 and Vancouver in 2010. Bronze already went to Japan on Saturday.

“It’s incredible. Nations like Canada have one million active curling players, we in Sweden have around 4000. That shouldn’t be possible. But they made it,”said Sweden’s King Carl Gustaf XVI:”They were cold as ice and are simply the best.”

For the first time since the resumption of curling in the 1998 Olympic program (Nagano) Germany was not represented in any competition.

Already on Saturday the Japanese team around Skip Satsuki Fujisawa had won 5:3 against Great Britain. The Canadian women, who were Olympic champions four years ago in Sochi, had already failed in the preliminary round in Pyeongchang.
