Boxing: British boxer dies hours after winning the fight

The British professional boxer Scott Westgarth died only a few hours after winning a semi heavyweight fight. The 31-year-old collapsed on Saturday in Doncaster after his hard-fought victory against his fellow countryman Dec Spellman in the locker room and succumbed to his serious head injuries in the hospital early on Sunday morning.

This was confirmed by the umbrella organisation for professional boxing in Great Britain.

Westgarth’s promoter Stefy Bull reacted with dismay on Twitter:”God bless Scott Westgarth. For a good show, a young man who loved his sport lost his life. I don’t know what to say.”

Both fighters had suffered heavy rainfall during the ten-round fight.
