MLB: Yankees Appoint Alex Rodriguez as Special Advisor

On Sunday, the New York Yankees introduced a group of four former players as Special Advisors under General Manager Brian Cashman. The group is led by former team superstar Alex Rodriguez.

In addition to the three-time American League MVP Rodriguez, Cashman’s new advisory team includes Hall-of-Famer Reggie Jackson, World Series MVP Hideki Matsui and World Series champ Nick Swisher.

“These are exciting times for the New York Yankees and I don’t see this opportunity as given,”Rodriguez said,”I am truly grateful for the trust the organization has placed in me. And I look forward to providing all the support and expertise I’ve been asked to provide.”

Rodriguez has been working in a similar role for Yankee’s Managing General Partner Hal Steinbrenner since the end of his career in 2016. This job expired at the end of 2017. As part of this task, he invited a group of Yankees prospects to a steakhouse in Tampa/Florida for dinner last February and ended any questions from the young players.

“There are some places where he can help,”said “Mr. October” Reggie Jackson about his new comrade-in-arms:”Alex is a real student of the game. I think he also has the ability to manage. This is a good place for him to learn. If Brian brings you back, it’s not just for practice. I’m looking forward to Alex spreading his knowledge throughout our Minor League teams and the Big Leagues. He just knows the game.”

Rodriguez will also be wearing a uniform at the Yankees’ jumping training complex in Tampa sometime in March to meet with the players.

In addition, he is now regularly on television, as he is one of the analysts on ESPN’s flagship baseball team,”Sunday Night Baseball”.

Rodriguez was the first total pick in 1993 draft for the Seattle Mariners and beat in 22 years at the MLB. 295/. 380/. 550, won three MVP Awards and beat 696 homeruns. In addition, he helped the Yankees reach 27th place with 18 RBI in the 2009 postseason. World Series triumph of the historic franchise.

Due to doping, however, it was also closed for the entire 2014 season. A fact that Jackson does not, however, see as an obstacle to productive collaboration:”Alex is back because of his baseball skills. No matter what you say, there are 3000 hits, 2000 runs, 2000 RBI and four homeruns up to 700. That’s quite a lot.”
