The eight-time German champion Kölner Haie has eliminated the Canadian star defender Shawn Lalonde before the final phase of the double round in the German Ice Hockey League. Apparently, the 27-year-old North American had not shown the necessary professional attitude.
As early as Tuesday, Lalonde did not participate in the sharks’ team training any more:”We used the break to analyse the course of the season so far. This step is a result of this and the impressions of the last three weeks of training. We can only use players who fully identify with the Shark Organization and respect our core values,”said Shark Director Mark Mahon on Lalondes’ release.
Coach Peter Draisaitl had eliminated Lalonde from the squad during the season after poor performances for a game against Mannheim. Only a year ago, the contract with the Canadian had been extended until 2019.
Since 2015/16, Lalonde has been under contract with the Rhinelanders and was used in 165 games. Mahon continues:”As we have seen in the last few days, a positive and united collective is the only way to be successful. We are on the verge of an extremely important phase this season. To achieve this, we must join forces and avoid negative influences.”
