Golf: First professional tournament for men and women

For the first time in professional golf, there will be a joint tournament for men and women.

For the GolfSixes in St. Gallen, England. Alban (5. /6. May) the organizing PGA European Tour (EPGA) awarded a wildcard to the so-called “Captains Team” with Ryder Cup captain Thomas Björn (Denmark) and Solheim Cup captain Catriona Matthews (Scotland).

In the matchplay competition with two-man teams, an English women’s team and a further combination of European players together with eleven men’s teams will be teeing off in addition to the Mixed. The organizers will issue a final wildcard for the fight for the 100,000 dollar prize at the end of March.

“I think it is very important to overcome the barriers between men and women in golf,”said Björn on his appointment to the historic team with Matthews.
