NFL: Confirmed: Bears releases quarterback Mike Glennon

The Chicago Bears break up with quarterback Mike Glennon not surprisingly. Glennon, who was signed up just before last season but quickly replaced by Rookie Mitchell Trubisky, will be fired at the start of the new league year.

This was announced by Bears Managing Director Ryan Pace on Wednesday at the edge of the Scouting Combine. When the new league year starts on 14. By the end of March, Glennon will be available on the market and for every team. Otherwise, the quarterback would have cost $16 million against the cap.

Glennon had been awarded a three-year contract of up to $45 million in the past Free Agency – but when the Bears traded up in the draft to secure Mitchell Trubisky a few weeks later, it quickly became clear that the 28-year-old would have no future in Windy City.

In the end, Glennon was only used in four regular season games (93/140,833 YDS, 4 TD, 5 INT) before he was replaced by Trubisky. He was well remunerated for this short-term commitment: Glennon received a guarantee of 18.5 million, and in 2018, after his release, he will charge the Bears’ salary cap with a dead cap of 4.5 million dollars.
