Kobe Bryant could win an Oscar on Monday night. His film “Dear Basketball” is one of five nominated works in the category “animated short film”. SPOX collects all information.
The former superstar could thus add another trophy to his illustrious collection, which is unusual for an athlete. He never thought he’d say,”What? That’s beyond my imagination,”he wrote after his nomination was announced on Twitter.
The animated clip “Dear Basketball” is about five minutes long and is a film adaptation of the poem of the same name, which Kobe Bryant wrote on 29. This is what Players Tribune announced on November 1,2015 in the Players Tribune. This is his declaration of love for basketball, which was also the announcement of his resignation at the end of the 2015/2016 season. The translated text of the poem can be found here.
Bryant himself acted as screenwriter and producer in the filmic realisation of his poem. Director and draughtsman is Glen Keane, who used to create cartoon characters like Pocahontas and Tarzan for Disney. He has been working independently with Glen Keane Productions since 2012. According to Bryant, he had worked with Keane because he didn’t have much to do with basketball, so he was able to work unbiasedly.
Meanwhile, John Williams is responsible for the soundtrack for the film, who has already worked on blockbusters such as Star Wars, Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones.
The film is nominated in the category “animated short film”. He is one of five remaining titles on the shortlist.
In addition to “Dear Basketball”, these four animated short films hope for the coveted trophy:
