Ski Jumping: Wellinger leads DSV-Adler to first place in Lahti

The German ski jumpers around Olympic champion Andreas Wellinger (Ruhpolding) won the team competition at the Lahti World Cup in Finland and celebrated their first team victory since January 2017.

After eight jumps, the DSV eagles with 1124.5 points and a lead of 11.3 points, equivalent to around six metres, won World Champion Poland (1113.2) at the big 2017 World Championships.

Olympic champion Norway was third only (1082.6) after ski flying world champion Daniel Andre Tande crashed to 101.0 m in the first round.

Wellinger, who had become runner-up in Lahti twice last year, was the last German jumper to reach 124.0 and 127.0 m and lost slightly to Poland’s top man Kamil Stoch (127.5+131.0). The overall World Cup leader Stoch is the favourite for the victory in individual jumping on Sunday (15.30 CET in the LIVETICKER).

Previously, Karl Geiger (Oberstdorf/130.0+127.5 m), Markus Eisenbichler (Siegsdorf/125.0+130.0) and Richard Freitag (Aue/121.0+125.5) had provided a quite comfortable guided tour.

National coach Werner Schuster had changed his silver team from Pyeongchang to one position. For Stephan Leyhe from Willingen, Eisenbichler joined the team, who on Friday had offered himself third place in the qualification for individual jumping. Last year, Leyhe had made a decisive mistake at the World Championships in Lahti, when the German team took fourth place.
