The Frankfurt Skyliners and EWE Baskets Oldenburg celebrated their first anniversary on 23. In the second match day of the BBL, important victories in the fight for play-off places were won.
In narrow matches, the seventh-placed player Frankfurt won 78:72 (29:33) against s. Oliver Würzburg, who had to date equal points, and Oldenburg won 83:74 (38:39) thanks to a strong final quarter (26:13) at Science City Jena and cemented sixth place in the standings.
In front of 5,000 spectators in the sold-out Fraport Arena in Frankfurt, the game grew and fell steadily. Led by international Robin Benzing (21 points), Würzburg scored a strong second quarter (21:13), which Frankfurt countered with a 21:14 in the third round. The deciding man was Frankfurt’s Point Guard Philip Scrubb with 31 points and nine rebounds.
Jena did not even reach 36 points of his US stars with the former Oldenburg star Julius Jenkins (19) and Derrick Allen (17). Mickey McConnell (19) and Rickey Paulding (16) were the best casters on the Oldenburg side.
