European Amateur boxing champion Abass Baraou becomes a professional. The 23-year-old welterweight has signed a long-term contract with Stable Sauerland. He has all the qualities needed to create a sensation in professional boxing in the years to come and to become one of the world’s top players in the long term,”said the promoter.
Born in Aalen, Wuerttemberg, Germany, Abass Baraou, a son of Togolese parents, was the outstanding German amateur in the last two years. In 2017, he won the European Championship title in Ukraine and won bronze at the World Championships in Hamburg. Baraou also impressed ex-world champion and former superstars such as Vladimir Klitschko, Henry Maske or David Haye. It was not until the semi-finals that he was stopped in the Hanseatic city by London Olympic champion Roniel Iglesias from Cuba.
“I have achieved a lot with the amateurs and think that now is the best time to switch to the pros. With Team Sauerland, I have a good partner at my side and I am also delighted that my battles will be shown on free TV at Sport1,”said the three-time German champion Baraou, who won the traditional chemistry cup in 2016 and 2017.
