The Los Angeles Rams have reached a decision. The California franchise has equipped Lamarcus Joyner with the Non-Exclusive Franchise Day. The Safety will therefore be under contract with the Rams for another year. This decision has a direct impact on Sammy Watkins. The Wide Receiver becomes a Free Agent and could be placed with another team.
Joyner will earn 11.29 million dollars through the day in the coming season. However, this is only the case if both sides do not meet by 16th December. We can agree on a long-term contract from 1 July. Joyner also has the opportunity to negotiate with the other teams through the non-exclusive day. However, the other franchise would have to pass two first round picks.
The 27-year-old has only been in the safety position since last season. There he plays a very important role in the system of Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips. Joyner will also find a new partner in the Rams 2018 Defensive Backfield. Marcus Peters will be following media reports from the Kansas City Chiefs to L. A. walk. Peters will in all probability take over the position of Trumaine Johnson, who will enter the free market.
Choosing Joyner also means that the Rams run the risk of losing Watkins. The Wideout came only in the last off-season via trade from the Buffalo Bills. Watkins was one of three successful receivers alongside Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp.
