MLB: Tim Lincecum becomes Reliever at the Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers are now clear about the general role of newcomer Tim Lincecum. He will work as a relief pitcher and could even play a leading role. In addition, for the first time in his career he is wearing a new number – for sentimental reasons.

Lincecum signed its contract negotiated in the previous week on Tuesday after passing its medical check-up. Shortly afterwards General Manager Jon Daniels explained that Lincecum will be working in Bullpen during the day. He even promised the right-hander the role of the Closer, which none of the reliefs had really performed convincingly last year.

“It was a difficult decision between the Dodgers and the Rangers, but in the end it was these two teams. I thought the Rangers just fit better. The conversations we had just made me feel a little better.”

It has also become known that, contrary to his previous career, Lincecum will not be running up with the number 55, but will be wearing the 44. The reason for this is that he wanted to honour his recently deceased brother, who once carried 44 in the Minors,”I have always looked up to my brother. He was an idol to me. He just made a lot of bad decisions in his life,”Lincecum said. The funeral was last Saturday.
