Golf: Saudi Arabia’s first professional tournament to take place in 2019

Saudi Arabia will host a professional golf tournament for the first time in history. The European Tour announced this on its homepage on Thursday. The premiere event at the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club in the King Abdullah Economic City on the Red Sea is scheduled to take place from 31. January to 3rd January February 2019. The partnership runs for three years until 2021.

“We are very pleased to have taken the first steps to bring professional golf to Saudi Arabia,”said Keith Pelley, Managing Director of the European Tour.

The plans were finalised this week during the visit of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to London. The new Saudi tournament will be part of the spring golf season, which already includes tournaments in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Qatar and Oman.
