NFL: Titans dismisses Running Back DeMarco Murray

The Tennessee Titans are not surprisingly moving in a new direction in their backfield: The Titans announced on Thursday that Running Back DeMarco Murray will be dismissed.

The Titans had structured Murray’s contract when signed via trade from Philadelphia in such a way that they would be able to leave after two years without a dead cap. Tennessee has now made use of this option and the team has won $6.25 million in Cap Space.

For weeks now, there had been open speculation about the 30-year-old’s dismissal. Murray, who had played 1,664 total yards and twelve touchdowns in his first season in Tennessee, was noticeably less explosive over the past season.

Running-back colleague Derrick Henry, who will now be taking over the starter spot, looked like a much better player, while Murray was struggling with persistent injury problems. The veteran now has at least a few days to come to an agreement with a new team before the big free agency wave hits the NFL.
