Ski jumping: DSV eagles take fourth place in Norway’s victory

At the Team World Cup in Oslo, Germany’s ski jumpers have just missed the hoped-for podium. One week after their success in Lahti, Olympic champion Andreas Wellinger, Richard Freitag, Karl Geiger and Markus Eisenbichler finished fourth with 1009.8 points at Holmenkollen. The victory went to the outstanding Olympic champion Norway (1098.7), followed by Poland, Kamil Stoch (1039.8) and Austria (1010.2).

The DSV eagles were still in third place after the first round, but had to let Austria take the lead by the tiny size of 22 centimetres. The hosts in the gold line-up of Pyeongchang were unstoppable: Robert Johansson, Daniel Andre Tande, Andreas Stjernen, and Johann Andre Forfang ensured Norway’s first ever team victory at home Holmenkollen.

Wellinger was with two flights on 129,0 m the best long distance fighter from the German team, Friday (131,0 and 125,0) presented itself only in the first run in good form. In the overall standings of the ten-day “Raw Air”series Wellinger is in sixth place after three of 16 jumps with 402.2 points, Friday (391.8) is eighth. The lead was taken by the winner of the Four Hills Tournament Stoch (428.8) ahead of the two-time Olympic third Johansson (421.3).

The “Raw Air”tour will be continued on Sunday at 2.20 pm/ZDF and Eurosport with a single jump in Oslo. The qualification in Lillehammer will continue on Monday. The series introduced in 2017 ends on 18. March on the “Monsterbakken” in Vikersund, the overall winner receives a prize of 60,000 euros.
