Outfielder Jorge Bonifacio of the Kansas City Royals was suspended for 80 games due to a positive doping test. This was officially announced by the MLB commissioner’s office on Saturday.
Bonifacio was positively tested for Boldenone, a steroid. The lock will be released on the opening day of the new season, 29. March, begin.
“He is an incredible person who just made a mistake,” said Royals manager Ned Yost shortly after receiving the message,”but defended General Manager Dayton Moore Bonifacio:” Jorge has our support as he deals with the consequences of his violation.
Bonifacio made his major league debut in 2017 and won with 17 home runs and 40 RBI in 113 games with an average of 255.
The suspension will now free a third baseman Mike Moustakas, who signed a new one-year contract with the Royals last week.
Bonifacio, on the other hand, is the fourth player this year to be banned for doping. The other three are Astros pitcher Dean Deetz, Nationals catcher Raudy Read and pirates pitcher Nik Turley.
