Ski jumping: Wellinger crashes in Oslo – Tande celebrates home victory

Olympic champion Andreas Wellinger crashed at the ski jumping world cup in Oslo. The 22-year-old dropped from the sixth to the fifteenth place at the legendary Holmenkollen in the second round. Best DSV eagle was Stephan Leyhe as seventh right in front of Richard Freitag. The victory went to Daniel Andre Tande, who was the first Norwegian since Roar Ljökelsöy to triumph in the cradle of Nordic skiing in 2004.

“I don’t know exactly what was going on there. I didn’t find the jump so bad at all, but it was just difficult conditions,”Wellinger told ZDF. After a strong first jump at 130.0 m, the Bavarian had the podium in sight before he landed at 117.0 m in the second round and was passed through, but I’ll take the first jump with me,”Wellinger said.

The two Austrians Stefan Kraft and Michael Hayböck landed on the podium behind Tande. Kamil Stoch, who defended his lead in the overall ranking of the “Raw Air”series, was only sixth. The pole leads after five of the 16 jumps of the Norway Tour with 681.8 points just ahead of the Norwegian Robert Johansson (675.3), who made up some ground as fourth on Sunday. Wellinger (635.4) is the best German in seventh place.

For Leyhe (Willingen), seventh place was his best result of the season, followed directly behind him by the three-time winner of the season Friday (Aue) in eighth place. We could have used one right at the front,”said national coach Werner Schuster.

Andreas Wank (Hinterzarten) took his first World Cup points of the season in twelfth place, Karl Geiger (Oberstdorf) in 14th place. All in all, we didn’t jump so hard here the whole weekend,”said Schuster, whose team finished fourth on Saturday in the team jumping competition.

Markus Eisenbichler (Siegsdorf), second in Lahti a week ago, and Constantin Schmid (Oberaudorf) even missed the second round on ranks 32 and 35.

Wellinger and Co. have time to take a deep breath. The “Raw Air”tour will continue on Monday at 5.30 pm/Eurosport with the qualification in Lillehammer.
