Speed skating: Sven Kramer misses tenth all-round World Championship title – Patrick Roest wins

The Dutch speed skater Patrick Roest surprisingly won the title at the Allround World Championships in Amsterdam. In a dramatic finale over the 10,000m distance of the open-air arena, the 22-year-old 1,500m Olympic runner-up benefited from the inattentiveness of Norway’s Sverre Lunde Pedersen, who was clearly in the lead after three courses and fell about 3,000m from the finish line.

Pedersen jumped back up again and saved the silver medal – 0.4 seconds behind Roest, whereas the nine-time all-round world champion Sven Kramer, who missed 1.46 seconds on Roest and 0.05 seconds on the bronze medal in a close decision after four courses, had to wait for his fellow countryman Marcel Bosker to win the bronze medal.

Moritz Geisreiter (Inzell) was 22. the final of the best eight clear after three courses.
