Daniel Theis is at the Boston Celtics in the middle of his first NBA season. In his SPOX column, the German national player talks about his everyday life in the best league in the world.
Hi folks and welcome to the third part of my monster blog!
it’s time for the next Monsterblog. A lot has happened again in the last few weeks. We’re also going into the second round #AskTheis and you can check at the end of the blog to see if your question to me is there. It is best to send it to her with the hash tag #AskTheis on Twitter or Facebook. And now have fun reading!
For the All-Star Break we had something like a midseason crisis. We didn’t defend well as a team and we really had a hard time. The body language and the necessary freshness were simply no longer there. This caused us a lot of unnecessary defeats, unfortunately also at home in the TD Garden. This was not an easy time for us. That’s why it was all the more important for us to make the right use of the little break during the All-Star Game in order to regain energy and to be able to attack again with 100 percent.
For me personally, this break was very important. We had a few days off, so we flew to Orlando. It was really good to get a little bit of distance from basketball and spend time with my family. Of course, the sun also helped me to recharge my batteries! We used the time to explore Disney World and just relax by the pool. The break really came at the right time. It was also a cool experience that I was invited to the ESPN Club and was able to answer questions from the audience in a relaxed interview. I was also really pleased to see some Celtics fans there. We were also able to meet with Darius Miller and his family because they had chosen Orlando as their destination. And of course I also followed the All-Star weekend. Of course, it would be a dream of mine to be there one day!
A highlight since the last Monsterblog was definitely the “Jersey Retirement Ceremony” by Paul Pierce. Unfortunately, we couldn’t win the match against the Cavaliers that day, but it was really incredible to witness such a special event live. Paul has achieved so much for Celtics and has done so much outside the court. He was drafted by the Celtics in the first round, won the NBA championship in 2008 and became a final MVP. If you have seen and witnessed such a special celebration, you also know what you are fighting for every day in the hall.
Unfortunately I saw Kevin Garnett, my absolute idol, only briefly at the celebration. But maybe there will be an opportunity to train with him individually. That would definitely be a small (big) dream of mine.
Due to the Trade Deadline on 8. A lot has happened in February, especially at Cleveland. Fortunately, we were “spared” from a major upheaval and were able to strengthen ourselves with Greg Monroe. Because the season is so long, it’s always good to have a lot of high quality players. Maybe you’re wondering if it was weird for me that Greg got hired, but he’s a completely different type of player and I can play on position 4. He is an excellent post player and will be able to help us a lot.
In general, things went really well for us after the All-Star Break. We were able to win four out of the first four games. Everybody is fresh again and we finally play good defense and good offense again. Simply put in two words: CELTICS-BASKETBALL!
Of course, I can’t complain personally either. In Detroit I had my career high with 19 points and I am always happy about the chance to develop myself further. I’m grateful for the playtime I get. Playing against Blake Griffin is fun and it’s always great fun to compete with such a player. Mega was also that I then stood in the Starting Five against the Knicks in Madison Square Garden. It’s a great feeling to get the confidence of Brad Stevens and I’m happy every time I can help my team win.
After 2-3 weeks we were finally allowed to play at home in the TD Garden. After all, we also had something to make up for. It was really important to give something back to the fans after the bad games before the All-Star Break. I was also pleased that I got the jersey from Marc Gasol after the match against Memphis.
I very much hope that we will be able to take the positive energy and momentum back to the playoffs in the next few weeks. Because then the cards are shuffled again and everything is possible!
Now we come to your questions!
? Ben Gallagher?: #asktheis respekt an dich! 1) with whom do you get along best in team? 2) what do you like the most in boston?
I don’t want it to sound trite, but I do indeed get along with everyone very well. Most of the time I spend with Aron Baynes. He is the gourmet in the team and knows the best restaurants. We often have dinner together when we’re on a road trip. With Semi Ojeleye, Shane Larkin and Abdel Nader I play at the Hotel PlayStation every now and then. Preferably FIFA 18. It’s been killing us for a few hours! It’s always fun and funny.
“Cold Vingo”: Hey, Daniel. Where do you get your black Celtics jersey from in Germany? Still following BBL? What do you think of the Bamberg season? Keep on dark!!!!
A lot of people write to me about the jersey. First of all: It’s very cool that you want to get a jersey from me! I don’t know for sure, but I think at the moment you can only get it directly from us in the USA. Clearly I follow the Bamberg season and it hurts me personally to see how things are going at the moment after the last successful years. In any case, I wish Andrea all the best for the rest of the way and the Bamberg team, so that they can quickly find their way back to the track.
Nico Rey: If you’re allowed to pick a player from the NBA as a teammate, who would it be? #AskTheis? #Celtics?
I have one of the best point guards in the NBA team with Kyrie. His ability to create litters for himself and others is unique. That’s why I already have the player in the team:)
Bobby Rondo: Hi Daniel! What is the best part about playing in the NBA? P. S your awesome man!? #AskTheis
Playing against the best players in the world and the history of the NBA and having the opportunity to live my dream.
Max: Where do you see yourself in three years?? #AskTheis
Hopefully still in the green Celtics jersey and maybe with a won NBA title; -)
CJay: What has been the best advice from veteran teammates? #AskTheis
Be the best version of yourself!
So, guys, that’s it with Monsterblog Number Three! I will keep you up to date on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and if you have any special questions for the upcoming Monsterblog, then #AskTheis!
