Combiner Eric Frenzel celebrated his second victory of the season at the World Cup in Trondheim, Norway. The Olympic hero of Pyeongchang had a second advantage over the Japanese Akito Watabe, who extended his lead in the overall World Cup. Fabian Rießle (Breitnau) and Johannes Rydzek (Oberstdorf) rounded off the excellent German result in third and fourth place.

Frenzel (Oberwiesenthal) had jumped up to 130.0 m from fourth place to cross-country skiing, where he quickly caught up with the leading Watabe and set the decisive attack at the start of the home straight. For Frenzel it was the 43rd. World Cup victory in his career, the 29-year-old is now only five victories short of the record set by Finn Hannu Manninen.

Watabe took a big step towards winning the overall World Cup for the first time with second place. With 1130 points he extended his lead over Jan Schmid (982) and the Norwegian had to settle for eighth place in his home town. Rießle (691) is third ahead of Rydzek (682). Frenzel (534) follows in seventh place and has no chance of winning the crystal ball for the sixth time in a row.
